What are LTL Freight Services?

Less-than-truckload (LTL) freight combines multiple shipments in one trailer so you pay only for the space and weight you use. This model fits smaller, palletized freight that doesn’t require a full trailer but still needs reliable pickup windows and appointment compliance.

A typical LTL shipping profile is one to four pallets under roughly 5,000 lb total weight with dock-to-dock handling. When freight is larger, heavier, or benefits from fewer touches, we’ll steer you to Volume LTL or Partial Truckload to protect service and cost.

Benefits of Less than Truckload (LTL) Shipping

LTL provides cost control by sharing capacity while maintaining predictable service. You pay for linear space and weight, not a whole trailer.
1. Pay for used space only
You pay for the palletized footprint and weight you ship, priced by weight breaks, distance, and class/density, without buying a full trailer.
2. Flexible pickups
Same-day pickups are available across SoCal with fast next-day coverage in core CA, NV, and AZ origins.
3. Fewer touches
Freight ships on low-touch linehauls with limited cross-dock activity. Fewer handling events reduce damage risk and keep transit times consistent.
4. Retail-ready delivery
We set and keep retailer/DC appointments and follow routing guides, including Amazon FBA requirements. Residential, limited access, inside delivery, and liftgate are scheduled as needed to prevent refusals and delays.

Our LTL Shipping Process

Move palletized freight with reliability and control. Our LTL freight process is built for shippers and brokers who need competitive pricing, appointment delivery, and clear visibility.

1. Quote and tender
Send detailed shipment info such as origin and destination, pallet count, dimensions, and total weight. We return an LTL rate with a transit estimate and pickup window.
2. Pickup
The driver verifies piece count and condition. If freight is not stackable or requires special bracing, we document it at pickup to avoid reweigh/reclass.
3. Linehaul
Freight moves on planned routes engineered to minimize touches. Where possible, we move freight directly from origin cross-dock to destination market rather than multiple breaks.
4. Delivery
We coordinate pre-set retail/DC appointments, notify consignees as needed, and manage exceptions. Residential, limited access, inside delivery, and liftgate are handled per tender.
5. POD and billing
Electronic POD is issued upon delivery. Invoices include rated accessorials and supporting documents.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is LTL freight?
Less-than-truckload (LTL) combines multiple shippers’ freight on one trailer so you pay only for your share of space and weight. Pricing reflects weight, distance, and freight class or density, plus any accessorials.
When should I use LTL vs. Volume LTL or Partial Truckload?
Choose LTL services for smaller palletized shipments (commonly 1–4 pallets, lighter weights). If your freight is larger or time-sensitive and benefits from fewer touches, we’ll quote Volume LTL or Partial Truckload.
Can you handle retail/DC appointments and FBA?
Yes. We secure timeslots per routing guides, attach required references (PO/ASN/SCAC), and push status updates through delivery. If a window moves, we reschedule and hold or re-time the shipment to keep you compliant.
What accessorials are available?
Liftgate, residential or limited access, inside delivery, notify-before-delivery, and appointment setting at both pickup and delivery. We quote these at tender so paperwork and billing match the move.
LTL vs. Volume LTL—what’s the difference and when should I use each?

Standard LTL freight is class/density rated and priced by hundredweight. It’s built for smaller palletized moves that fit within typical LTL rules—compact footprint, lighter total weight, and no linear-foot or cubic-capacity triggers.

Volume LTL is quoted as a space/linear-foot reservation for larger or lower-density shipments that start to occupy a meaningful share of the trailer. Pricing is based on the space you take (and weight), not just class, and the freight often rides a low-touch linehaul with fewer breaks.

If your shipment is beyond the usual LTL “sweet spot” (more pallets, more linear feet, or getting hit with capacity/oversize rules) Volume LTL usually prices better and reduces handling risk. We’ll quote both and recommend the lower landed cost with the right service profile.
